Maps, as we know them, were developed to help imperial powers like Rome and Britain understand and control distant territories; they have been inseparable from the exercise of political power ever since. This talk explores the connections between power and geographical knowledge by looking closely at three maps of Halifax, produced at different periods between the city's founding and the present.
